Fill Stitches
Fill stitches cover large areas of machine embroidery designs ( also free cartoon embroidery designs) . Changing the angle of a fill stitch (tatami, satin, step stitch) can provide the look of a different thread color because it alters the way light is reflected off the thread. Fewer color changes equal faster stitching and subtle shaded effects.
A simple way to fill an area is by laying satin embroidery stitches side by side. This was an accepted way of filling an area with thread before computerized machines were able to execute a "step" stitch.A step stitch or fill stitch, as it is now know,is created with stitches of specified length sewn in lines of walking or running stitches. These lines of stitching are sewn very close to each other, offset according to the commands of the digitizer. Designs or patterns can be programmed into the fill by varying the stitch length with in each line. This makes the stitching appear to be a part of the fabric.
